WACO - Berkner earlier this week advanced to the regional tournament because of an early burst against defending state champion Plano. But it couldn't duplicate that performance against Klein Collins.

Klein Collins (29-9) bolted to a 36-13 halftime lead with a flurry of 3-pointers and an up-tempo style that forced Berkner to scramble on defense.

"We never played with the same energy we played with when we have played our best," Berkner coach Rod Wright said.

Berkner (23-10) played better on the defensive end in the second half but got no closer than 38-21 midway through the third quarter. Berkner missed 15 free throws in the second half.
