
'Cats claim district crown

PLANO - The Plano boys basketball team finished off The Colony early Friday with a 16-5 first period run before coasting to a 76-53 victory at The Colony.
With the win, Plano (21-8, 11-2 in District 8-5A) clinched the district championship. The Wildcats close out the regular season against Plano East (19-8, 8-5) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Plano Activity Center gymnasium.
Plano is the only team to have clinched a playoff berth in 8-5A.
Following Plano's 16-5 run to open the game, the Wildcats scored 20 points each in the final three periods. They outscored the Cougars, 20-13, in the second period to take a 36-18 lead at the half.
Plano led 56-33 entering the final period and both teams scored 20 points in the fourth.
John Roberson scored a game-high 19 points for the Wildcats. Eric Zastoupil scored 16 and Joseph Fulce scored 13.
The Colony was led by Joe Wilson's 15 points.
