PLANO - The Plano boys basketball team used a 25-9 run Friday in the final 12 minutes of play to hand Flower Mound its first loss in District 8-5A play, 51-35, at the Plano Activity Center gymnasium.
"What a great defensive effort," Plano coach Tom Inman said. "We're a pretty good defensive team and we showed that we were (Friday). I can't say enough about Lawrence Mann's defensive effort against Shawn Schepel. He made Schepel work for his points."
Plano (14-7, 4-1 in 8-5A) ended Flower Mound's four-game district win streak and is currently on a four-game district win streak of its own. The Wildcats visit Plano East at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Archie E. McAfee Gymnasium.
Plano led 22-19 at halftime before Flower Mound tied the game, 26-26, behind four free throws from Schepel and a Sean Poe three-pointer. But the Wildcats closed out the third period by scoring 10 straight points to take a 36-26 lead into the final period. John Roberson and Eric Zastoupil each scored four points during the 10-0 spurt.
Roberson and Zastoupil each scored six in the fourth as Plano outscored Flower Mound, 15-9, in the last eight minutes.
Zastoupil and Roberson scored 18 and 16 points, respectively. Mann added 10 for the Wildcats.
Mann also held Schepel to 12 points, six below his average.
