
Plano boys win Carrollton tournament

PLANO - Plano used stifling defense in the second and third quarters to grab a 73-57 win over Carrollton Newman Smith in the championship of the Carrolton R.L. Turner Basketball Tournament on Saturday.
Plano (7-2) jumped to a 20-19 lead in the first quarter before outscoring Newman Smith, 17-8, in the second quarter and 19-8 in the third.
Joseph Fulce led Plano with 19 points. John Roberson scored 18 and Eric Zastoupil finished with 16. Roberson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and Zastoupil received all-tournament recognition.
Plano advanced to the championship game by defeating Temple, 71-64, in the semifinals. Roberson scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Wildcats.
Plano jumped to a 40-26 lead by the half before fighting off Temple's late rally. Johnny Davis led Temple with 23 points.
Lawrence Mann came up big for the Wildcats with 13 points. Anton Korolev added nine, and Zastoupil finished with eight.
