People couldn't help but like Richie Herskowitz.
He was social, a sports nut and a friend to everyone he met. He battled cystic fibrosis and never complained.
Richie, 17, wanted to attend Southern Methodist University and go into sports marketing.
He died in October.
"He wanted to live so badly," said his mother, Barbie. "But the part that keeps me going is that I know that Richie did more in 17 years than most adults do in a lifetime." Read story

FTW Dunbar Wildcats claw back
By Daniel Fermaint - PlanoSI.com - Nov 20, 2007
During the JV game, a FTW Dunbar fan uttered the following: "They've got 7 players, we've got 20 and they're giving us a whoopin'! I hope the big varsity guys can can pull this one out! Stay by your phone!"
Although misleading (i.e. Plano had 9 JV players and FTW Dunbar had 16), JV dealt a whoopin' and FTW Dunbar's Varsity were up to the task.
Plano's JV had their way with Dunbar in a 75-61 win over a well played game at FTW's Wilkerson Field House, which houses the Robert Hughes Court. The Plano Varsity game told a different story altogether. Plano and Dunbar played pretty evenly for the first 8 minutes of the game. Midway through the second quarter, Dunbar outscored Plano by 15 points and the second quarter is where the damage was done. The halftime score had Dunbar ahead by 16 points. Although down, Plano kept Dunbar in check as Dunbar outscored Plano by only a single point in the entire second half. Plano dropped this one by 17 points, 62-79.

Plano drops tough one to FM Marcus
By Daniel Fermaint - PlanoSI.com - Nov 20, 2007
For three quarters of the game against FM Marcus, Plano (1-2) was out-scored, out-hustled and just out-played in a 38-55 loss on Tuesday night. Using the entire bench, Coach Inman gave each player an opportunity to make an impact and gain some experience in this losing battle.
Playing without some starters, Plano hit bottom when it trailed 17-50 early in the fourth quarter, but that's also when Plano's defense showed its muscle. Led by some traps in the backcourt, fullcourt presses and interrupting passes in the passing lanes, Plano showed some defensive brilliance.
On the offensive side, a reverse layup by Danny Hahn and a cutter by Eric Hall caused an outbreak of "PLAAAANO!" from the Plano Faithful. Although, Plano stepped it up in the fourth quarter, the deficit was too much to overcome. - PHOTOS

Plano plowed through Naaman Forest in Plano's Season Opener at the Plano Student Activity Center on Tuesday night. Plano's JV set the pace early with a win over Naaman Forest JV by a score of 73-53 with some stellar play from the starting line and bench led by Juniors Dalton Sullivan and Nick Whaley.
Plano's Varsity team was shorthanded as five football playoff bound athletes did not suit up. Plano's supporting cast, led by Seniors Reggie Britton and Anil Pillai, played tough defense and although Plano's offense was lacking, Naaman Forest was kept within striking distance after the half with a score of 11-17.
After resetting the offense, Plano made up the difference and led 34-29 with 1:43 left in the game. Naaman came back strong to force an overtime even at 34.
Naaman led the first couple of possessions, but could only manage two points as Plano scored eight unanswered points in overtime. With just nine seconds left and leading by six points (42-36), Plano applied great full-court pressure and forced Naaman to take a long-range shot at the buzzer, which rattled in the rim and fell through the net. Although good for three points, it wasn't enough as Plano would be victorious by a score of 42-39. [ Boxscore ]
